David R Huseby, age 85, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota.

Born on July 28, 1938, in Moorhead, Minnesota, Dave was the son of Clifford and Ruth (Kvamme) Huseby. He spent his early years attending school at District 14 in rural Hawley, Minnesota, before graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1956.

In 1958, Dave joined the Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton in California until 1962.

Following his honorable discharge, Dave pursued various career paths. He worked at Goodyear Tire in Aberdeen, SD, and later at 7up Bottling Company in Fergus Falls, MN. In 1963, he became the proud owner of the Standard Station in Pelican Rapids, which he successfully operated until 1978. He then sold Snap-on Tools before purchasing the Sears Catalog Store in Pelican Rapids, a venture he managed until 1984. His professional journey eventually led him to the position of General Manager at Park Region Co-op until 2005, when he retired.

Dave was a former member of Central Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, as well as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. Additionally, he was a proud member of both the Elks in Fergus Falls and the American Legion.

In his younger years, he served as a Boy Scout leader, participated in softball and bowling leagues, and enjoyed playing golf. He and his wife eventually built a home at Stony Bar Estates on Lake Lida and enjoyed frequent pontoon rides  and family gatherings. They held residency there until moving back into Pelican Rapids in 2019. He also enjoyed deer and waterfowl hunting with family and friends.

David's kind heartedness, quick wit, and dad jokes will be missed by his family and friends, but most of all his grandkids.

David is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Terri (Dennis) Sorum; sons: Todd (Nancy) Huseby, Tony (Shelly) Huseby, and Troy Huseby; grandchildren: Nick (Sophia) Sorum, Andrew (Chrisandra) Sorum, Patrick (Kinzie) Sorum, Taylor (Sarah) Huseby, Michael Huseby, Ryan (Tori) Huseby, Alyssa Huseby, Shea Huseby, Carly Huseby, Quinn Huseby, and Kaia Huseby; great-grandchildren: Anika, Norah and Oliver Sorum, Ryder and Asher Sorum, Everly Sorum, Xavier and Mateo Huseby; sister Carol (Chuck) Rice, and sister-in-law Shirley Ralston and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents; Clifford and Ruth Huseby; sisters Arlene Huseby and Ramona (Duane) Bissonnette; brothers: Arvid Huseby and Roland Huseby.

A visitation to celebrate Dave's life will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm at the church, officiated by Pastor Eric Schwirian and Allen Westby, S.A.M. The Pelican Rapids V.F.W. Post #5252 and the American Legion Post #17 will recognize Dave's service with military honors.
