David Alan Jackman passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 3, 2025 in
Georgetown, TX at the age of 35. David was born in San Antonio, grew up in South Austin, and graduated from Bowie High School where he played football.
David was easy to trust and for all the right reasons. You could tell from his smile and the sparkle in his eyes that he was someone you wanted to talk to and be around. He loved many things on this planet like music, shooting guns, and rolling on the mat during jiu jitsu. David also loved playing disc golf and shooting compound bows with his wife; her love of it inspired the boys' names. But there was nothing he loved more than his family. Being an uncle brought him constant joy. And it was becoming a dad that helped David grow into the best version of himself. Even after spending the day in 120 degree attics, he still worked with Fletcher on proper tackling form or new wrestling and takedown moves. His support for his wife was unmatched; regularly taking solo parenting responsibilities for extended durations when she traveled for work. While relieved when she got home, he was committed to supporting the home life to give the boys the best life possible.
As Lenny says in RocknRolla "there's no school like the old school, and I'm the f#cking headmaster" so we are going to use the rest of this to remember all the great things David taught us with quotes from two of his favorite movies Die Hard (1988) and RocknRolla (2008).
1. "Welcome to the party, pal!" – Life's what you make of it so make it fun. David always knew there were times to be serious but not very many of them.
2. "Geronimo mother f'er" – Don't be afraid to jump in even if you don't know how it's going to go. David knew when he started jiu jitsu that he was starting from the bottom but also knew that jumping in was the only way to get where he wanted.
3. "That, Roman and Mickey, is the famous Archie slap" – Have something you are known for. David was the nicest guy. The friendliest guy. Someone you could always count on to bring a smile and laugh. And most importantly, if he didn't get along with you, then you were probably a sh!t person because he got along with just about everyone.
4. "Don't hurt me Arch I'm only little!" – David every time Archer had David by the collar of his shirt and was babbling nonsense that sounded like a talkin' to. Not sure what lesson you want to take from this but, I know how much joy David got out of saying it to Archer so it had to make the list.
David's life will be celebrated with a Big Ol' Party on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Rabb Pavilion* at Old Settlers starting at 11am. At 11:30 am we will take a short walk to the tee pad for Hole 5 to share our favorite stories. Please bring your favorite photo of David. There will be blank pages to tape the photo to and space to write down your favorite story. The more of his life we can write down, the better his boys will know him.
