David Stanley Jackson, age 80 passed away suddenly on Tuesday August 9, 2022 at Baylor Scott and White hospital Grapevine, Texas. David was born in Kewanee, IL to his parents Oscar and Iva Jackson. He grew up Illinois and in Huntsville, AL. He proudly served his country with the US Navy during the Vietnam War. David's two children Julie and Jay were born during his first marriage. David was serving in the Navy on the ship the USS Dale when he received news that he became a father for the first time in 1967 to daughter Julie. He was finally able to meet his daughter 6 weeks later when the ship returned from assignment. In 1971, a year after his service with the Navy ended, he was blessed with a son Jay. David believed in exposing his children to culture and felt the best way to do that was through the many summer road trips with his children to visit his parent's farm along with numerous trips across the country.
David worked for IBM in the 80's where he met his wife, Jean. They were married in 1986 at which time David instantly became a grandfather. David was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Iva, his brothers Howard and Roger Huffman, and stepson Eugene Giermann, III. He is survived by his wife, Jean Jackson, daughter Julie (Steve) Schwartz, son Jay (Teresa) Jackson, step-daughters Theresa (Steve) Mishler and Tania (Jed) Duggan, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
When he retired from the US Postal Service in 2007, he and Jean moved to Nebraska to live with Jean's mother on her farm. David embraced the country life, grew a large garden and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with everyone. They found the winters too cool for their liking so in the late fall they would migrate south with Jean's mother Dora for the winter. They loved spending time on South Padre Island with David's cousin Harold and Marge Branson.
David loved his family and enjoyed family get-togethers, playing cards, trips with the grandkids to the mountains, beaches and lakes. He enjoyed pranks like slipping the grandkids a spoonful of mashed potatoes instead of ice cream. David had a generous heart and was often helping loved ones, from his parents, in-laws and in his final years attending to his beloved Jean. Our hearts are heavy with his passing but take comfort knowing he is at peace and no longer suffering.
