David Henry Janecek, known affectionately as Dave to his loved ones, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, in
Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 88. Born on June 1, 1936, in Victoria, Texas, to Cyril Methodious Janecek and Ruth Pearl Janecek. David was preceded in death by his four sisters, May Jeanette, Lois, Sister Patsy Ruth and Sister Jude. He is survived by his older brother Herb and immediate family mentioned below. David's life was a testament to his generous spirit, optimistic outlook, and friendly demeanor.
He graduated from Corpus Christi College Academy in 1955, where he was the captain of the football team and a letterman in baseball and basketball. His leadership on the field was a precursor to the leadership he would exhibit throughout his life.
David was a serial entrepreneur who poured his passion into his businesses. He owned and operated two convenience stores, four gift shops, and a beloved local watering hole that served as a gathering place for many. His businesses were not just establishments, but extensions of his warm personality, where customers often became friends.
David's family was the cornerstone of his life. He shared a beautiful and loving marriage with his wife, Charlotte Janecek. Together, they raised a family that included their daughters Susan, Kathy and Karen Janecek, and son David Janecek, who, along with his wife Kathy, blessed David with two grandchildren, Taylor and Dallas. Kathy Janecek, one of David's other daughters, married to Scott, brought further joy into his life with their children Kendra (married to Stephen) and Kylie and the subsequent great-grandchildren Berkleigh and Norah. David's role as a patriarch was characterized by the same generosity and kindness he was known for in his community. Karen, the youngest daughter, was very dedicated to her father's care during his health issues.
A devout Catholic, David's faith was a guiding force in his life. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he found fellowship and an avenue to live out his faith through service. His commitment to his religion was as steadfast as his commitment to his family and business ventures.
David's interests extended beyond his work and faith. He was an avid sports enthusiast, a passion that remained from his days on the school teams. He also enjoyed the times he spent deer hunting with his friends and collecting coins. These activities were not just hobbies but also opportunities for David to forge and nurture lifelong friendships.
Those who knew David will remember him for his generosity. His optimism was contagious, and his friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community and beyond. He approached life with a warmth and openness that drew people to him, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and goodwill.
David's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact he has made on the lives of his family, friends, and community. David Henry Janecek will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who carry his memory in their hearts.
David's life was one of purpose, joy, and an unshakeable belief in the goodness of people. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the importance of community, family, and faith. David's journey through life was a beacon of how to live fully, love generously, and leave the world a better place. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy live on through the lives of those he touched.
