David Matthew Johnson, 66, passed away on April 20, 2025, at his beloved Three Rail Ranch in Isanti, Minnesota-a place he poured his heart into and called home. He passed away from a compilation of several recent health issues, surrounded by the love and comfort of his cherished home. A celebration of David's life will be held at a later date at the Three Rail Ranch.
Born on February 20, 1959, David grew up in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, as one of nine children in the lively and loving household of Burt and Charmaine Johnson. From an early age, David stood out for his humor, creativity, and knack for making others feel welcome.
At just 18 years old, he purchased what would become the Three Rail Ranch in a bold and heartfelt attempt to win the heart of his high school sweetheart, Carol-who had always dreamed of having a horse of her own. That young act of love turned into a lifetime of shared dreams, hard work, and cherished memories with the family they built together.
A natural host and people-person, David built and owned his own bar, Maverick's Saloon, in the "Badlands of East Beroun", where he worked for over 15 years until 2020. He took great pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere-where friends could gather, stories could be shared, and laughter came easy. During his time there, he formed countless friendships and left a lasting impression on everyone who walked through the door.
He was a true entertainer at heart, always ready with a song, a story, or a witty comment to bring smiles and laughter to those around him. Whether it was singing karaoke, cracking a perfectly timed joke, or simply attending a family gathering, David had a way of lighting up every room he entered.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol, and their four children: Ryan (Christina), Erin (Erik), Bethany (Cody), and Katie (Michael). David was a proud and loving grandfather to Julia, Odin, Emma, August, and Eleanor, each of whom brought him immense joy and laughter. He is also remembered with love by his siblings and extended family.

He was a very good man and very funny. I knew him from elementary school and as we both had the same name it caused some issues in school like getting the wrong teacher assigned. He will be greatly missed.

David was always fun to be around with his sense of humor. Never a dull moment.
