It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of David William Johnson, beloved son, father, and cherished friend, who left us on February 9, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Health System – St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.
Born on July 28, 1984, in Mankato, MN, to Timothy and Barbara (VanBrunt) Johnson, David lived a life full of love, laughter, and passionate interests.
A proud graduate of Mankato East High School in 2003 and South Central College in 2013 with a degree in Accounting, David dedicated his professional life to customer service, most recently at Autotronics in Mankato. He had a special affinity for the Minnesota Vikings and the New Jersey Devils, taking great joy in watching games on Sunday afternoons with his beloved sons, Ryder and Wyatt, at Grandma Barb's house. His children were truly the pride and joy of his life, and he cherished their yearly trips to Lake Vermillion with his boys and close friends.
David was known for his vibrant personality and keen sense of humor. He was an expert on the movie ‘Titanic,’ and his friends can attest to his entertaining retellings and discussions. He also held dear the memories of spending time in New Jersey, enjoying the company of family and visiting favorite restaurants and watering holes, which brought him immense joy.
In a final act of generosity, David chose to be an organ donor, leaving a lasting legacy of life. Thanks to his selfless decision, his lungs saved the life of a 70-year-old woman, his liver helped a 63-year-old man, and both of his kidneys provided a new lease on life to two individuals, ages 58 and 76. In this way, he continues to be a hero and inspiration to many.
David is survived by his sons, Ryder Mastin and Wyatt Norman; mother, Barbara Johnson; brother, Adam (Heidi) Johnson; sister, Kim Johnson; uncle and aunt, Frank and Lori VanBrunt; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
Dave was preceded in death by his dad, Timothy Johnson; and his grandparents. In this time of sorrow, let us remember David for his warmth, generosity, and the joy he brought to our lives. His spirit will live on in the memories we share and the love we carry forward.
Visitation will be held from 4-8pm, Friday, February 13, 2026 at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Eagle Lake. Memorial service will be 1pm, Saturday, February 14, 2026 at church with visitation one hour prior.
