David T. Kaminsky, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 25, 1941, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning at his home on Twin Oaks Road.

David shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, DonnaMarie. Together, they raised six children: James (Melissa), Donnamarie (Curt), Stephen (deceased), Christine, Michael (Michele), and Joy (George). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Alexandra, Julian, Jacob, Grayson, Matthew, and Owen.

Raised in Turtle Creek, PA, David began his early adult life as a Capuchin brother, serving in the religious order for five years. Though deeply spiritual, he felt that his true calling was family life. He left the monastery to marry DonnaMarie and dedicate himself fully to being a husband and father, roles he cherished above all else.

David began his professional life in bookbinding but found his long-term career in sales with Tremco, a company specializing in commercial roofing and sealant products. In 1974, Tremco relocated the family to Akron, Ohio, where David continued to thrive, serving the company faithfully for 35 years until his retirement. He and DonnaMarie made their home on Twin Oaks Road, where they spent five decades creating memories and building community.

David and DonnaMarie opened their home to international students from St. Bonaventure University, forging lifelong relationships that enriched their family. One such bond led the Kaminsky family to travel to Togo, West Africa, in 1986, where David had the honor to be Brother Benoît Amoussou’s Witness in taking his final vows. That journey, and many others, reflected David’s commitment to sharing the world with his family, not only through travel but also through the values of openness, service, and connection. At home, David nurtured the same spirit of connection by creating experiences that brought his family closer together. Whether building a treehouse in the backyard, hosting Epiphany celebrations and fish fries, organizing family game nights, teaching his children how to make household repairs, or tending the garden, he filled their lives with curiosity.

David was known for his kind heart, deep faith, and genuine care for others. He had a passion for food, cooking, music, dancing, and fishing, and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Alongside DonnaMarie, he taught natural family planning, embodying their shared commitment to faith, love, and education.

David’s commitment to service was a natural extension of his deep compassion and faith. In Akron, he worked directly with the homeless community, offering his time and kindness to those facing hardship. He and DonnaMarie also sponsored a scholarship at Archbishop Hoban High School, helping students pursue their education and potential. David was also a consistent donor to Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen, supporting its mission to provide meals for people in the wake of natural disasters and in areas of conflict. Known for having a beautiful voice, David served as a Canter at St. Bernard’s for many years. Many would come to enjoy hearing him sing. Among the most meaningful contributions of his volunteer life was helping to build a chapel for the Transfiguration House of Prayer in Butler, PA, a sacred space that reflected his lifelong devotion to faith, family, and service.

The Kaminsky family offers their heartfelt thanks to all who surrounded David with love and support. Your visits, phone calls, cards, prayers, and many acts of kindness brought comfort and peace in his final days. David’s life was richly blessed, and your care helped carry him, and all who loved him, through this time with grace.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 2, 2025 at 1PM at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 West Market St, Fairlawn OH 44333, where the family will receive friends one hour prior.
