David LeRea Kettles, 74, of Pensacola, FL, formerly of Rossville, GA, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025. Born on April 18, 1950, in Fort Payne, AL, to the late Reaburn and Jeanne (Westbrooks) Kettles, David lived a life of service, dedication, and adventure.
David was a proud 1968 graduate of Rossville High School before continuing his education at the University of Alabama, where he graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, where he played a pivotal role in airlifting the last refugees out of Vietnam, an experience that shaped the rest of his life and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and pride.
After his military service, David went on to have a successful career as a pilot for US Airways, where he flew for many years before retiring. After settling in Pensacola, FL, David pursued a new venture in real estate, further reflecting his drive and desire to stay active in his community.
Throughout his life, David remained a hard-working and passionate man, always keeping himself busy with various interests and projects. He was especially fond of his German Shepherds, Alure and Aladdin, who brought him great joy and companionship.
David is survived by his loving sister, Marilyn McDowell; his nephew, Travis (Michelle) McDowell; and his great-niece, Camara McDowell.
A Memorial Service will take place at a later date. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
