David Lawrence Kinne (Dave), age 69, of
Katy, TX, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 7, 2025.
Dave is survived by his three children: daughter Hannah Bolmanski and husband, Lance, of Atlanta, GA; son Samuel Kinne of Houston, TX; and son Thomas Kinne of Austin, TX. He leaves behind three siblings: sister Louann Conklin and husband, Todd, of Altamonte Springs, FL; brother Joe Kinne and wife, Kae Lynn, of San Antonio, TX; and sister Terry Dawson and husband, C.E., of Oviedo, FL. Dave is also survived by his ex-wife, Carrie Kinne, of Dallas, TX, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lois Kinne, and his sisters, Carol Kinne and Leslie Kinne.
Dave was born in Albany, New York on October 22, 1955. He had many wonderful stories about his childhood in upstate New York and his high school years in Winchester, Virginia, where he graduated from John Handley High School in 1973. Dave earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Virginia Tech in 1979 and began a long career as a geophysicist in various roles in the oil and gas industry. Dave's career took him from his beloved Virginia to Texas, with shorter moves to Canada, Australia, and Alaska. Dave later returned to Texas, where he met and married Carrie Gregory in Dallas in 1992. Together, they raised a beautiful family in
Katy, TX. After a successful 40-plus-year career, Dave retired from Shell Oil in 2024.
Music, travel, the Virginia Tech Hokies, and (most importantly) cars were Dave's passions. Dave bought his first guitar at ten years old, taught himself how to play, and passed the love of the instrument to both of his sons. While Dave's collection of guitars was impressive, his collection of model diecast cars was nothing short of incredible. "Crazy Dave's Diecast," Dave's online business that involved refurbishing and customizing Matchbox cars for customers all over the world, became a household name on eBay. Dave's passion for cars extended to his own purchases of a '65 T-bird convertible (affectionately named "Bernice") and a Shelby GT Mustang ("Sherby").
Dave's travels included many family road trips in packed mini-vans. He especially loved visits to Little River Club in Arkansas, a special gathering place for chaotic holiday weekends, with Carrie's family. He always looked forward to returning to Norway and Canada for work, and was very sentimental about revisiting the places in New York and Virginia that held such special memories for him.
Dave was witty, incredibly smart, and loved dearly by his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, musical talent, a love of sports (never missing his kids' endless sporting events), and exceptionally dry humor. He was well respected in his career and will always be remembered as a dedicated individual with a big heart and a big appetite for life (and a good meal!).
