David Ralph Koenig, age 75, passed away on 11-28-23 at the King Veterans Home in King, WI after a long, hard fought battle with dementia. David was a true firecracker up until the very end.
At his time of death, David was surrounded by his dear friend Catherine Fay, who lovingly looked after David when the dementia became too much, Heartland Hospice, and the caring staff at King Veterans Home, who became David's family when he admitted to King in 2017.
David brought much laughter and stories to the staff at King Veterans Home almost daily. David loved listening to his favorite band "Grateful Dead" and was listening to his favorite band as he transitioned from this world. We know this brought him peace at the time of his passing.
David was born on 7-3-1948 in Beloit, WI to parents Roman and Marie (Michaelis) Koenig. They preceded him in death.
David worked as a carpenter his whole life. David served the North Central States Regional Council for 34 years. David was also a member of the American Legion after serving his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
David loved woodworking, fishing, hunting, cooking, and playing sheep head cards. His passion was listening to Rock music especially Grateful Dead, and even attended their concert in 1991. He was also a big fan of the Green Bay Packers.
David was a friend to many; he has left many behind. David is survived by neighbor, loving friend, and long-term care giver for David, Catherine Fay. David would do anything for dogs and cats, especially four legged friends Katrina and Shania.
He will be dearly missed, but he is at peace. David's wish was to be cremated.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 23, 11am to 3pm at the American Legion Hall, 500 Fond Du Lac Ave, Fond du Lac WI 54935.
His eternal resting place will be at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI.
