David L. Koning, 83, formerly of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Mulberry Health and Retirement. He was born in Lafayette on February 5, 1939, to Walter and Mary Elizabeth (Fields) Koning. He married Jacquelyn "Jackie" Dubes on December 16, 1967; she preceded him in death on September 20, 2020.
David attended Lafayette Jeff High School and then served in the US Army. He was a truck driver for many years and was a former member of the Teamsters Local 135. He helped construct many of the roads throughout Indiana. David enjoyed raising cattle, mules, Bluetick coonhounds, and draft, AQHA, APHC horses. He was very active in the equestrian community. David was also an avid coon hunter, loved Ford trucks, and working with the Amish community.
Surviving David is one grandson, Justin (Megan) Kirts of Lafayette; four great grandchildren, Harmony-Kay, Jaxson, Lainey Boone, and Oakley Carter; brother, Richard Koning of Lafayette; and a sister, Donna Kelley of NC.
In addition to his wife, David is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Kirts; and a brother, Robert Koning.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Genda Funeral Home, Rossville Chapel. Memorials may be made in David's honor to HPA, c/o Terry Coffman, 11901 S. 100 W., Columbus, IN 47201, or PHBA Scholarship, 15253 E. Skelly Dr., Tulsa, OK 74116.
