David Lane Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 25, 2025.
David Ireland Lane, of Jeffersonville, VT, passed away on September 15, 2025 after a decline with Alzheimer's Disease, a few days after his 80th birthday.

Born on September 13, 1945, David was the middle child of Bradford and Ruth Lane. After growing up on his family's dairy farm on the Horn of the Moon in Montpelier, VT, he earned his bachelor's degree in education at Keene State College. His calm and patient nature made him an excellent teacher, devoted husband, loving father and friend. He had a long career as a Tech Ed teacher at People's Academy in Morristown, VT. He had a genuine passion for teaching and encouraged his students to be respectful, safe and to do their best.

It was while teaching a community course in wood-working where he met his wife, Marsha Nye. They would go on to marry, raise a family, and share in many endeavors and adventures together. They renovated and built numerous beautiful homes and properties, including Green Valley Farm in Jeffersonville, VT, where David and Marsha spent their "retirement", operating a bed and breakfast. They took many trips throughout David's life, across the USA and Europe, with particular favorites being England and Water Island in the US Virgin Islands.

David will be fondly remembered and missed for many things. He was skilled and gifted woodworker and builder, always with an active project and constant list of things to repair, paint, and tinker with. Anytime his daughter or son-in-law had a question on "how to fix something", he was always the first person they'd call. David was a hard and tireless worker and rarely sat still. He could often be found out on his tractor or working in the yard or garden, tending to his expansive raspberry bushes, vegetable garden and pumpkin patch. He had a soft spot for animals and children and he took particular joy in spending time with his three grandchildren, taking them for tractor rides and hosting them on frequent visits. David had a love of food, especially sweets and baked goods. He was known to covertly consume large portions of cake and pans of brownies, sliver by sliver, as he worked to "even out the edge". He was always willing to help others and showed his care through small gestures, sweeping the snow off one's car, providing an open ear, or offering words of encouragement. He cherished time spent with his family, over a meal, playing cards, or sitting by a campfire. He had a genuine grin, a wonderful laugh and a kind heart.

A private celebration of David's life will be planned in the near future. His family would like to invite anyone who knew him to honor his life and memory by doing as he did. Build something. Treat those around you with kindness and patience. Enjoy a good meal, especially dessert. Work hard. Show good care for those you love. Leave the world a better place than how you found it.
