On May 14, 2023, David W. Langrock, known to those who loved him as “D.W.”, passed away at his home in Ogden, UT with Patricia Agricola Langrock, his wife of 60 years at his side. He was 83 years young. Born to German immigrants Arthur and Frieda Langrock on June 20, 1939, in San Fransisco, CA., Dave graduated from San Mateo High School. While he didn’t play basketball until he was a junior, he became a varsity team member and as a senior was named to the 1957 National Peninsula Sportswriters Association Basketball League Team. In 2006, he was inducted into the San Mateo High School All-Star Athletic Hall of Fame. He graduated from Utah State University where as a sophomore he was a starting forward for Utah State’s Men’s Basketball Team. A devout Aggie, he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity where he garnered the nickname ‘Baby Oss’ for his always observant swiveling head like an ostrich while playing on the basketball court.

It was at Utah State that this blonde-haired blue-eyed California boy spied Patti on her first day of freshman year, silently following her from one sorority house to another until she agreed he could give her a ride home. It was just the start of their life-long love affair. Dave and Patti were married on September 12, 1963, setting up the legacy of him forever introducing her as “my bride”. Following college, they moved to Ogden, UT. where their daughters Heidi and Holly were added to their family. Dave worked as an insurance adjuster for GAB Insurance before joining Jack B. Parson Companies where he created the job of Safety Director. He loved his work there for nearly 40 years and in 2000 was named Safety Director of the Year for Oldcastle Materials. Dave was a rock-steady force whom all could depend on.

One of Dave’s life-long passions was bird hunting for duck, goose, and pheasant. He was known for his knack for finding the best hunting spots for himself and his hunting buddies and charmed many a farmer with chocolates and Christmas hams for permission to hunt on their land. Dave also had a passion for discovering food and travel destinations that led him and Miss P on long winding road trips in “The Rig”, to concerts and music festivals big and small, and to beaches around the world where he could work on his tan.

Dave was an avid sports lover, cheering on his Utah State Aggies, San Francisco Giants, Kenny Schrader’s NASCAR #36 M&M’s car, pretty much any sporting team on T.V., and of course, his kids and grandkid’s games. He loved the game of blackjack and somehow even at the age of 83, could and would play all night. He taught his daughters to “put it in the bank” and the importance of 401Ks, was a pro weeder who kept an immaculate yard (and also those of his lucky daughters), and was always early, not just on time. DW greeted friends and family with jazz hands and a “Hey Boss!”, enjoyed telling stories with a vodka martini and two olives, and spent many years of morning coffees at Hilltop Lanes and later at Moore’s. He had an affinity for pulling Miss P onto the dance floor “to boogie” whether anyone else was or not, rolling coins on the big bed with his grandkids, cooking his famous Daddy’s potatoes and pheasant dinners, people-watching, and telling restaurant servers, “I’m the dad, give me the check,” to which he’d always reply when thanked, “You bet.”

Oh, D. While you were a man of few words, you left us with millions of amazing memories and volumes of good things to say about you. As P says, “D, you are quite the character,” and the ultimate provider. We love you madly, to the moon and back, and are going to miss you even more. XOXO and kisses forever, Miss P, H #1, and H #2.

Dave is survived by his bride, Patti Agricola Langrock; daughter, Heidi Langrock Larsen, son-in-law, Jeff Larsen, and granddaughter, Ali Larsen of Salt Lake City, UT; daughter, Holly Langrock Novak, son-in-law, Matt Novak, and grandchildren Olivia Novak and Loren Novak of Houston, TX; brother, Don Langrock and wife, Sherry Langrock; nieces, Leslie Langrock and Sheila Langrock Miller and their families of Woodland Hills, CA.

At Dave’s request and true to his unassuming nature, no formal services will be held. Instead, cheer on your favorite team, enjoy a fresh strawberry shake, or weed your garden with his memory in mind.

Our group went to South Dakota probably close to 20 years straight, D W was the chief, the boss of the hunt. Remember the bushes in the middle of Dials farm. D W went wild there was so many birds, kept yelling theirs more. And at work he did everything he could for the employees. Farewell to a great friend. Patty and girls, my condolences. Randy Anderson

I was so sad to hear the news of DW´s passing. We shared many memories together hunting over the years. He is one of my most favorite people in the world. He will truly be missed.
