David Lawrence Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Strickland & Family Cremations & Funeral Services on Apr. 4, 2025.
On April 1, 2025-April Fools' Day, of all days-David C. Lawrence left us suddenly, leaving his family and friends in shock at his unexpected passing. His larger-than-life presence, both in stature and in spirit, will be deeply missed.
Born in Durham, NC, on October 16, 1962, David was the beloved son of Wallace "Wally" Lawrence and the late Sue Lawrence. Standing at an impressive 6'9", he was known not only for his height but for the towering adventures and stories he shared.
David attended West Point Military Academy and later Emory & Henry University. He had the unforgettable experience of playing basketball against Michael Jordan in high school. His competitive spirit and drive led him to a highly successful career in cemetery sales and management. He acquired and managed numerous cemeteries across the United States, with his most recent endeavor being Cemetery Sales Manager of Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, VA. More than his professional achievements, David was a mentor who helped shape and inspire many in the sales industry.
Beyond his career, David had a deep love for the water. Fishing and boating were his true passions, and he cherished every moment spent on the water with family and friends.
David is survived by his loving wife, Sheri; his father, Wally; his brother, Allen; sister-in-law Kelly Francis and her husband, Jim; niece Morgan Francis; and nephew, Jake Francis. He also leaves behind many other cherished family members and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 3:00 PM at East Beach Bayfront Club, 4550 E. Beach Dr., Norfolk, VA 23518. In honor of David's wishes, attendees are encouraged to dress casually-flip-flops and relaxed attire are welcome.
David's laughter, wisdom, and unwavering kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
