Robert F. Pittman III

Robert Franklin Pittman III, lovingly known as Rob, was born on February 25, 1945, in Richmond, Virginia, to Bob and Emily Pittman.

He grew up in the Virginia Beach area, where he graduated from Princess Anne High School. He received his bachelor's degree in 1974 from Old Dominion University. Later he continued his education and in 1981 received his master's degree from Union Theological Seminary.

Rob dedicated his life to serving others through education and ministry. He followed God's call into pastoral ministry, serving faithfully as a pastor for over 40 years until his retirement in 2010. Even in retirement, Rob continued to serve his community by driving a school bus for Norfolk Christian School, where he was known for his warm smile and kind spirit.

Rob is survived by his beloved wife of over 35 years, Pauline, and his five children: Shelley Beeler (Jay), Rhonda Gilbert (Tony), Somer Wool (Jack), Kristy Cox (Michael), and Ryan Schalles (Lindsay). He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Neal, and his niece, Jennifer Neal Creasey.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Grace Bible Church in Norfolk on Saturday, February 14th at 11am, with a reception immediately following where family and friends are invited to gather and share memories. The family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice and Discovery Commons nurses and staff for the care they provided. Strickland and Family Cremation and Funeral Services are helping with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers you can send a donation in Rob's honor to Grace Bible Church or Norfolk Christian Schools.
