David Lenney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Catricala Funeral Home Inc. - Clifton Park on Feb. 19, 2026.
David M. Lenney, 68, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away on February 11, 2026.

Born in 1957 in Potsdam, NY, David was the son of the late William and Nancy (née McNamara)

Lenney. After a North Country childhood on the water (and occasional troublemaking with his

brothers Billy and JC), he graduated from SUNY Geneseo and eventually pursued his passion

for debate, earning his Juris Doctor from New York Law School in New York, NY.

David's greatest joy was his family and friends, whom he cared for deeply. Some of his family's

happiest memories include tearing down the ski slopes yelling at/with the French Canadians,

being on the baseball and football fields coaching his sons, reading with his daughter, and

seeing how high in the air he could launch all three of them tubing on Paradox Lake.

He had a unique sense of humor that could light up any room (or clear it out, since the timing

and content wasn't always appropriate for polite company, though somehow this made the jokes

even better).

More than the laughter, though, was his generous spirit and unwavering presence. Dave

showed up without question when you needed him and stayed as long as necessary. He had an

extraordinary gift for making people feel less alone, and his kindness and loyalty touched

everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his three beloved children: Dan, Allie, and Matt Lenney; their mother, Carolyn

Jones; and his siblings: William, J.C., and Julia Lenney. David's legacy of laughter, love, and

unwavering friendship will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Services for David are to be announced at a later date.

So many good times together at Rainbow and Stark. No one went for a calm and peaceful canoe ride - you knew someone would try to ram you and tip you over ... and why just go for a swim when you could ride down the falls at the rocks?
Dave was a wonderful story teller, able to find the humor in any situation, dark as it might be, and also had such a deep caring and kind side. You knew you could always count on Dave, to listen, to help, to be there - if he wasn´t holding you under the water to see how long you could hold your breath. Dave was one of the funniest and most intelligent people I have ever known and that combination was something to sit back and enjoy.
It was wonderful to get together one more time when he came up for Johnny´s Memorial and his 50th Reunion. We will all miss you.

I´m so glad I got to see David last summer when he was up. Really enjoyed seeing him and sharing stories from our childhood ( some of them were even true).

I have so many great memories growing up in Potsdam with the Lenney family. David was the most loyal friend you could ask for. Always in your corner no matter what the circumstance. I highly respected Dave not only for his athletic abilities but for his high intelligence. Dave will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
