John David Long, 72, of Gladewater, Texas passed away at his home, August 15, 2024. Born in Jennings, LA, on October 29, 1952, David was the son of John R. and Alice Carter Long. He spent his younger days growing up in Bridge City, TX. He was a graduate of Kirbyville High School and would later attain his Bachelors in Agricultural Science from Sam Houston State University.
David married the love of his life, Bonnie Lindsey Long, on December 17, 1977. Two children were born of their marriage, Dustin David and Travis Lee.
David was always a hard worker. He worked as a welder, pipe fitter, and on offshore drilling rigs. David would later work as an Ag teacher and spent several years at Chevron Oil Company. David moved with his family to Gladewater, Texas where he worked as an Operator at Eastman Chemical Plant.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Brothers Jeff, Charles, and James.
Those left to cherish his memory are his church family, his wife, Bonnie Long, and his sons Dustin and Travis; sister Martha, and his brother, Lawrence.
David loved his family, Chevy trucks, John Deere tractors, smoking brisket, and baling hay. David was a lifelong learner and had a passion for History. He was a strong Christian man, and a wonderful, loving patriarch whose daily prayers covering his whole family by name will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church Liberty City on Monday, August 19 at 1:00 pm under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral. Burial will be at 3 pm at Rosewood Park in Longview, Texas. Pallbearers will be Travis Long, Dustin Long, John Lindsey, Lucas Lindsey, David Lindsey, Lanny Sullins, and Scott Clower. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Warlick's Sunday School Class.
The family requests donations to First Baptist Church Liberty City in lieu of flowers.
