David Lee LoPour, May 11,1934 - August 31, 2024
"So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right there in your heart." (~David M Romano)
David Lee LoPour of Lovington, New Mexico left this Earth peacefully on August 31, 2024, at the age of 90 surrounded by loving family after battling with Parkinson's for many years. David was a good, kind, loving and hard-working individual who had a wonderful sense of humor. He always had a good joke to share and never missed an opportunity to do so. You often found David sitting with a stranger sharing a life story and a "David joke." One could not help but feel uplifted after spending time with him. David also loved working with his hands. He was a brilliant mechanic and could fix most anything. He loved "tinkering" in his garage.
David was born May 11, 1934, in Hermleigh, Texas to Emil and Leah LoPour. They lived in Snyder, Texas and later moved to Portales, New Mexico where David spent a lot of time helping his dad around the farm. He graduated Portales High School, played football and was voted Football King. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles which became a life-long hobby. David worked for Mid-America Pipeline Company for 36 years. He also owned a part-time business, LoPour's Storm Windows and Doors, for 25 years.
David married his beloved Jeanette Shirey of Lovington, New Mexico in 1956. They shared their love of children, sports, traveling, and most of all the Dallas Cowboys! He remained devoted to all his family for the duration of his life.
David was proceeded in death by his parents: Emil and Leah LoPour; his brother: Lavon LoPour and sister Wanda Tracy-Harbert. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jeanette, daughter: Melissa Tadlock (Landon), son: D. Greg LoPour (Paige), Grandchildren: Courtney Robles (Mario), Crystal Tadlock, Cody Tadlock (Megan) and Sarah Horan-LoPour (Lucas); Great Grandchildren: Darren, Ellasyn, and Olivia Robles, Weston Tadlock and another soon to be born great granddaughter due in January 2025.
He will be greatly missed, but the love he shared will continue to live in our hearts forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at New Beginnings Church in Lovington, New Mexico on Monday September 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked Memorial donations be given in David's name to a charity of choice. David's family would like to thank StarCare Hospice and Interim Home Health for care and guidance. Also a very special thank you to our caregivers.
