David L. Lorenzen, 92, of Chrisman went to be with Jesus on October 11, 2024. He was the 6th child born to John F. and Emma (Sandbrink) Lorenzen on March 25, 1932. David spent his entire life on the farm in rural Chrisman.
He was married to Shirley Lunger of Chrisman for 71 years. They were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Paris, Illinois on February 7, 1953. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Tony (Sharon) Lorenzen and Tracy (Lisa) Lorenzen both of Chrisman; one daughter Trudy (Kerry) Bell of Watseka, Illinois; 8 grandchildren, Derrick (Stephanie) Lorenzen, Courtney (Mike) Giannavola, Drew Lorenzen (Casey), Casey (Corey) Haugen, Chad (Tiffany) Bell, Craig (Julia) Bell, Dalton and Landry Lorenzen. And step-grandchildren Andrew (Alyssa) Jones, Nick (Jessie) Forbeck, and Jackie (Tre) Jones. He was also blessed with 21 great- grandchildren. A sister-in-law, Pattie Lunger, also survives. He had many nieces and nephews who were very dear to his heart. The family will always remember and be grateful for his caretakers, Mary, Cindy, and Karlee.
David was proceeded in death by his parents, one brother and sister-in-law John "Sonny" (Leila) Lorenzen; sisters and brothers in-law, Doris (Bob) Westfall, Eleanor (Fred) Adams, Marilyn (Dewaine) Bess, and Betty (Gerhardt) Wendt; 2 brothers-in-law Jerry Lunger and Jim (Helen) Lunger; one grandson Blake Bell and one great-grandson Bennett Lorenzen.
In the beginning of his farming career in 1950, David farmed along with his father and brother. Over the years they grew into a diversified grain and livestock farm. What started as Lorenzen Brothers developed into Lorenzen Farms in 1972 when Steve and Tony came on board; later Tracy and John; and now into the 5th generation. His love for farming continued his whole life. He was still helping at the hog barn and riding the combine up until his late 80's. During the past few years Tony and Tracy received a daily call from their dad wanting an update on what was happening on the farm.
David served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He was a part of the 11th Airborne serving in Germany with the 188th Tank Company. Several of David's Army buddies were lifelong friends. He recently attended their 62nd Army Reunion.
David was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Paris, Illinois being baptized, confirmed and married there.
David also served on the Chrisman School board. David and Shirley were avid Chrisman Cardinal fans and spent many enjoyable years watching their children and grandchildren participate in Chrisman athletics. They loved watching them show hogs at the local fairs. They also enjoyed traveling.
