David Wayne Maenner passed away unexpectedly on April 9th, 2025 at age 69. He was born on August 31, 1955, the 3rd child of Hattie (Entzian) and Leo Maenner.

Raised on a tobacco farm first in Bowie (now the Bowie Golf Course) and then in Mitchellville, David was a farmer at heart. He drew tremendous satisfaction from keeping old equipment running and reusing whatever was sitting around in his shop or the farm buildings for creative fixes to problems.

After graduation, David spent a few years at Carrick & Gabbe Lumber Company then 30+ years at the Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission, working out of their Watkins Park location. He made the most of his 15+ retirement years.

He had the obligatory big ring of keys for his large collection of equipment (pickup truck, farm truck, UTVs, all sizes of tractors and associated equipment, lawnmowers, Harley Davidson motorcycle, Bobcat, skid loader…). He was always ready to help neighbors, relatives and friends with their mechanical or landscaping needs. When it snowed, the road and driveways were cleared long before the County road and State highway. The daily routine included morning and evening UTV trips around the farm and the neighborhood with his trusty canine companion “Tater”.

He is survived by his loving wife Tammy Maenner, sons Scott Welch and Robert Welch, brother Robert Maenner (Marie), sister Sharon Maenner Carrick, Aunt Alma Schultz, nieces, nephews, their families, and lots of cousins in the area.

A life well-lived but too brief.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to First Lutheran Church of Bowie -- Cemetery Fund, PO Box 120, Bowie MD 20719.
