David L. Malcom, 85, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Reid Hospital in Richmond following a brief illness.
He was born on June 2, 1940, in New Castle, Indiana, to the late Clayton and Martha Elizabeth (Harris) Malcom.
David was a 1958 graduate of New Castle High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. A lifelong farmer, he spent nearly every day of his life working the land on his family farm-a place he loved and remained deeply connected to.
David also had a passion for flying. Years ago, he owned his own airplane and could often be found at the Brown Road Airport, where he enjoyed taking to the skies. He loved striking up a conversation, swapping stories, and sharing a good laugh with those around him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Janet Evans of New Castle; his nieces and nephews, Diane (Anthony) Smith, David Evans, and Cheryl (Jerry) Hostetler, all of New Castle, Teresa (Ben) Dilling of Hagerstown, and Corey (Lisa) Malcom of Key West, FL; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a special friend, Renee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Malcom, and a brother-in-law, Wendell Evans.
Per David's wishes, no public services will be held. You may send the family a personal condolence at www.sprolesfamilycares.com.
