David Wayne Marquardt, 56, of Falmouth, KY passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. Born on July 26, 1966 in Ft. Thomas, KY, he was the youngest son of Charles Allan "Tinker" Marquardt, Sr. and the late Vivian McDowell Marquardt. A 1984 Pendleton High School graduate, David worked as a supervisor with Bosch for 25 years, while simultaneously working as a member of the Falmouth Fire Department, where he served as fire chief for 19 ½ years, before retiring in 2021, after 37 years of faithful service.
David is survived by his wife, Cathy Marquardt, who he married on October 15, 2022; his father, Charles A. "Tinker" Marquardt, Sr., his three children: Kymberleigh Nicole Marquardt (Bryan Records), Ryan Marquardt (Samantha), and Dylan Michael Pollard, all of Falmouth, KY; five grandchildren: Brayden Marquardt, Kayden Marquardt, Myles Records, Freya Records, and Sawyer Marquardt; his brother C. Allan Marquardt, Jr. (Gina) of Independence, KY and sister Sonya Workman (Lee) of Falmouth, KY; several nieces and nephews, several great nieces; and a host of extended family and friends.
In looking back over his tenure with the fire department, David said it best, "August 6, 1984 I was voted on the Falmouth Fire department. I had just turned 18 on the 26th of July. I was so excited to finally be able to join after spending about a year and a half on the Jr. Fire Department. Knowing I would get to be like my Dad and be able to help people was a dream come true for me. Then boom, 37 years later here I am retiring completely from fire service. I've served under and with some Great Men: Larry Florence, Bob Pettit, Keevil Hart, Marty Hart, Bob Pettit, Jr. and last but not least the guy I've been friends with since we were three years old, my Best Friend and brother from another Darrin Brown. I've been privileged to work alongside some of the bravest, most giving, kindest and strongest men and women you could imagine. Being there for people in the times of need has made my heart swell with pride and pop with sorrow, but all in all, I wouldn't change a thing being able to help my fellow citizens of Falmouth and Pendleton County. Time goes by, memories will fade, but I will cherish these memories as best I can for the rest of my life. Having my son Ryan spend 16 years along with me serving our community was very proud times for me, following my footsteps like I followed my Dad's. I loved being a part of a brotherhood, going through the ranks from fire fighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, and then Chief. Thank you to everyone that has supported me over all these years." David was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 202 Second Street, Falmouth, KY 41040, with Fr. Britton Hennessey officiating. Visitation will be held from 3-8pm on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Interment will take place in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to the David Marquardt Memorial Fund for the benefit of his five grandchildren at any Fifth Third Bank location.
