David M. Martorelli, a lifelong resident of
Melrose, MA, and cherished community figure known affectionately as "Mr. Melrose," passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on July 8, 1946, to the late Armellino and Mary (Cardillo) Martorelli, David's life was characterized by his enduring commitment to his family, his work, and his beloved hometown.
David graduated from Melrose High School in the class of 1965, where he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. He continued his education at the University of New Hampshire, earning a bachelor's degree that would serve as the foundation for a diverse and rewarding career. David worked at several jobs he loved, including at the Mt. Hood Golf Course, Melrose Wakefield Hospital, and for the City of Melrose Parks Department and also worked at City Hall as a custodian and was well known for being a man that everyone counted on. He greeted everyone with a smile. His dedication and friendly demeanor made him a well-known figure throughout the city. David served his country in the United States Army.
David's heart was always closest to home. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Donna M. (Bettano) Martorelli, sharing 50 years of marriage filled with love and mutual respect. He was a proud father to Michael Martorelli and the late Susan Martorelli, imparting his values of hard work and humor. David also shared a special bond with his late brother, Robert Martorelli, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
Those who knew David will remember him as the quintessential friendly neighbor, always ready with a joke and a helping hand. His infectious laughter and knack for storytelling made him a memorable presence at his favorite Dunkin Donuts, where he enjoyed daily coffee with the guys. David's sense of humor and handy skills made him the go-to person in times of need, and he always delivered with a smile.
David's interests extended beyond his professional life and into the heart of the Melrose community. His friendly nature made him a beloved figure, and his absence will leave a void in the fabric of the town. David's legacy, however, will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness and warmth.
As we bid farewell to David M. Martorelli, we celebrate a life well-lived and well-loved. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, cherished his relationships, and left an indelible mark on his community. David's memory will be treasured by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to embrace life with the same zest and humor he exhibited every day.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM in the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster Street, Melrose. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield. Interment will private. Family & Friends respectfully invited to attend.
