Jefferey Riemer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home & Alpha Crematory on Feb. 28, 2026.
Jeffrey Ward Riemer, born December 8, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away at home on January 6, 2026. The cherished only child of Gladys and Earl Riemer, Jeff grew up in Milwaukee, where he formed lifelong friendships and met the love of his life, Carla. The two married on December 29, 1964, beginning a partnership marked by devotion, curiosity, and shared adventure.

Jeff began his professional life as an apprentice electrician before becoming a journeyman electrician, but his deep interest in understanding people and society soon led him back to the classroom. While working full time, he pursued higher education with remarkable determination, ultimately earning his BA, MS, and PhD in sociology at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (BA, MS) and University of New Hampshire (Ph.D).

Jeff's academic career took him first to Wichita State University and later to Tennessee Technological University, where he taught with distinction and retired as Professor Emeritus. Jeff was known by colleagues and students alike for his thoughtful observation, his intellectual curiosity, and his genuine care for his students.

After decades of teaching and scholarship, Jeff embraced retirement in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. For twenty years, he enjoyed the quiet rhythms of nature, time with family, and the simple pleasures that brought him peace.

Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Carla Therese Froehlich; his son Daniel (Rebecca) and granddaughters Whitney and Heidi; and his daughter Sarah (Matthew) Wayland and granddaughters Ruby and Iris.

A private family service will be held.
