Philip "Phil" Martorelli
Passed away suddenly at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, on October 9, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on February 4, 1945, in Chicago, Phil grew up with a strong sense of duty and service, which led him to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he dedicated himself to helping others as a police officer and became the first K9 officer in Franklin Park, Illinois. He later continued his commitment to public service with the City of Evanston Park & Recreation Department, where he devoted many years before retiring.
A man of many interests, Phil was a nationally recognized backgammon champion through the U.S. Backgammon Federation, earning numerous awards for his skill and competitive spirit. He had a passion for gourmet dining, live music, and travel-especially to Las Vegas, where he enjoyed its renowned restaurants and shows. Phil was always quick with a joke, and his humor (mostly) brought laughter to everyone around him.
Beloved husband of Carol H. Martorelli (née Hiyama). Loving father of Natalie (Dennis) Eichholzer, Valerie (Naresh) Patel, Victoria Martorelli, Lorraine (Niraj) Patel, Eric (Christina) Christl, Richard (Elizabeth) Martorelli, Michael Martorelli, and Joseph Martorelli. Treasured grandfather of eleven and great-grandfather of five. Phil will also be dearly missed by his loyal dogs-Jake, Cash, and Crypto.
He was preceded in death by his father, Philip A. Martorelli, who was killed in action during World War II; his mother, Louise Zimmerman (née Berasi); his stepfather, Charles Zimmerman; and his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and John Rozak.
Phil will be remembered for his sharp wit, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His laughter and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Military Honors Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 26th, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Holt Road, Elwood.
