David Simon Mas

David Simon Mas was born on December 4, 1949 in Barcelona, Spain and opened his eyes in Heaven on June 3, 2025.
To call him a Renaissance man would be an understatement. Holding a degree in Art History and a mastery of six different languages, he was able to experience things that most people can only dream of. Whether he was traveling the world as a regional VP for Brown and Williamson Tobacco, managing car dealerships, laying hardwood floors or painting original pieces of art; he fit the very definition of a jack-of-all-trades. But, of all his accomplishments, his most prized achievement was his family. Having moved to America as an early teenager, to live with his sister Elisabeth and her husband Charles in Virginia, he would become a naturalized citizen and marry his wife Glenda and became the father of Kenny and Raquel. In 1993, he would move from Pembroke Pines to Palatka, Florida where his family would grow again when Raquel met and would eventually marry Tim Corey and would become the grandfather of Nevaeh, Sophie, and Myka. In 2018, David and Glenda moved to Waycross where they became members of Sweetwater Baptist Church and continued in the next chapter in their lives. David was a man who loved his family deeply and will be missed just as deeply. Even though he will be missed, we celebrate the fact that he is now walking with his Savior and is reunited with those who have gone before him.
David was preceded in death by his mother and father Margarita and Gabriel, a sister Raquel and a brother Gabriel, his son Kenny, and brother-in-law Charles.
He is survived by his wife Glenda, daughter Raquel, son-in-law Tim Corey, three granddaughters Nevaeh, Sophie, and Myka Corey, his sister Elisabeth Downing, his nieces and their husbands Sarah and Doug Roughton and Grace and Brett Smith his nephew Paul Downing and his wife Gina, and great nieces and nephews Jade and Adam Roughton, Emily, Lydia, and Andrew Smith, and Jaqueline Downing.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday (June 6, 2025) at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Corey officiating.
