Henry Mas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels & Cremation Services on Aug. 28, 2025.
Henry Mas (80) of East Windsor, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, August 26. He was born in Pego, Spain, in 1945, the oldest son of Henry Mas and Rosita Morell McCann. He immigrated to the United States at the age of three and settled in New Britain. He moved to East Windsor in 1957, where his father started Henry's Pizzeria. He graduated from East Windsor High School and proceeded to earn a Bachelor's Degree from American International College in Springfield, MA. He taught high school Spanish before turning his full attention to the restaurant. With his brother Vincent, they ran Henry's Pizzeria side by side for the next sixty years, becoming a staple in the community and in the hearts of their loyal customers.

Henry was predeceased by his former wife, Lorraine Mas, and is survived by his four children: Michael H. Mas (East Windsor, CT); Vincent J. Mas (Derrick) (Peekskill, NY); Gregory S. Mas (Lauren) (Enfield, CT) and Elithea M. Mas (West Hartford, CT) and his three beloved grandchildren - Olivia, Ethan, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother Vincent Mas (Donna), sister Rosita Tschummi (John) and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Henry dedicated his life to working at the restaurant, where he found purpose and a sense of community. He cherished the friendships he made with customers and took great fulfillment in serving them. He also loved animals and spent many years with his brother breeding and showing Morgan horses. He loved his vacations in Falmouth MA, his frequent visits to Mohegan Sun, catching a Yankees game on TV and spending time with his family.

We'd like to give special thanks to Henry's lifelong love, Marie Motta, her daughter, Donna Botticello, and Donna's husband Steve, for opening their home and their hearts to Henry in his final months and taking such good care of him. We are grateful that he was surrounded by so much love in his final days.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family to remember Henry on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 5-7pm, at Leete-Stevens Funeral Home, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT. There will be a Graveside Service for the family at St. Catherine's Cemetery on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 10am. . For online condolences please visit leetestevens.com

I have been going to Henry's for over 50 years. Later, me and a couple of my friends convinced them to sponsor our softball team. We were able to bring 2 championships over the in several years we played. Our team photo was always there in the vestibule and remained there till the closing.Vinnie , Henry and their staff were always so kind and generous to us. After our playing years I frequently brought my family to the family pasta nights. The food was always on point. Before we left after our meal, I almost always talked sports (especially the Yankees) with Vinnie and Henry and enjoyed many laughs and left with many fond memories. Last saw him around July of this year. Henry will definitely be sorely missed, just such a kind and pleasant person. RIP Henry.

We just heard about Henry´s passing. My wife from Broadbrook enjoyed a take home pizza with her parents and siblings almost every week.
Her father lived the rolls and bread. I was introduced to Henry´s and we enjoyed every visit. Two pizzas and an antipasto salad were the norm. Not a New Haven thin crust, but "unique". Henry always watched as we sat and took our first bite.
He loved my thumbs up. Everyone was like family to him and his brother. There will never be another. We live in Florida now and often talk about our favorite Connecticut places to eat. Henry´s is always in the mix......."Take a bag of rolls home" was the mantra we will never forget.
So many were blessed to have Henry´s in there life.

Ah the memories! When I was a young boy my mom got pizza to go from Henry's. In my teens I began going to Henry's with my dad, and Henry and Vincent were so nice. In high school I brought friends, and I rarely went a month without having pizza and salad at Henry's. The closing of Henry's was like a death in our family, and now those feelings are trivial after the passing of a great man, and a great friend!

We have been customers for many years. Henry was always so nice & loved to make my husbands favorite Oreganato pizza. As soon as we walked in the door, Henry would start the pizza. We will miss his warm smile.
