Mr. David "Rooster" McDonald, age 78, of Woodburn, KY, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at his residence.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory in Franklin, KY. Funeral services will be held the same day, Saturday, December 6th at 1:00 PM with interment to follow in Whites Chapel Church Cemetery in Drake, KY.
David was born on October 23, 1947 in Warren, County, KY to the late Bethel McDonald and the late Hazel (Alford) McDonald. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Don McDonald and Randy McDonald.
He is survived by wife of 33 years, Nancy McDonald; one daughter, Jamie Brown (Justin) of Woodburn, KY; two grandchildren, Ellie Neal Brown and Luxie Jean Brown; one sister, Carolyn McDonald (Danny Lindsey) of Franklin, KY; and his grand dog, Tillie.
David was a retired driver from Roadway. After retirement, he loved to be home and watch life unfold in the front of his eyes, watching his hummingbirds and finches. David loved to ride around the yard in his golf cart to make sure his grass looked good. His daughter, Jamie, was his world and he loved her so much. He discovered a "son" when Jamie married Justin. David and Justin became very close, spending a lot of time together. They enjoyed hanging out in his garage and having a beer. He thought the world of Justin. When his granddaughter, Ellie was born, it opened up his heart to something he didn't know! He was known on his CB radio as "Rooster" and a lot of people called him that but Ellie called him Roo! David got to meet his youngest granddaughter, Luxie and what a blessing she is. He also enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles and watching NASCAR while napping between laps. He was happiest spending time with his grandkids that he loved more than anything. He truly loved to help and take care of people.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Friends of the Shelter, P.O. Box 910, Franklin, KY 42135-0910. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
