Park Lawn Funeral Home - Liberty-Northland ChapelIt is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of David Lee McGee, age 76, who passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Centerpoint Hospital, in Independence, Missouri surrounded by loved ones.
David was born on October 30, 1948, in Independence, Kansas, to Francis J. McGee and Bonnie Maxine LaDuke. He graduated from Independence High School and went on to earn his Associates in Arts degree from Independence Community College in 1969. David worked in the construction industry for more than 40 years.
David married Kathleen Wiggins in 1974 in Independence and together they shared 12 years of marriage. David and Kathleen gave birth to and raised their children, Brian and Sarah, during their years together.
He loved his KU basketball, watching girls college softball, boys college baseball and little league world series. While living in Kansas, he umpired girls softball and boys baseball.
David met Sherri (Hayes) in 2004 at church they both attended. They attended church services, bible study and served in different capacities in the church. They were married June 10, 2006 and celebrated 19 happy years together. They enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. Taking trips to Colorado and Iowa to visit family. Taking walks and spending time sitting on the patio watching the deer and the airplanes flying over.
David was a simple, kind, giving man. Enjoyed making people smile and laugh.
He is preceded in death by father Francis J. McGee, mother Bonnie Maxine LaDuke, first wife Kathleen McGee, mother-in-law Georgia Aldridge, mother-in-law Winnie Price (Ernie Price), brother-in-law Rich Hayes (Chérie Hayes), and sister-in-law Linda Underhill.
David is survived by his wife Sherri McGee; son Brian McGee; daughter Sarah McGee (her fiancé Anthony Marks), step-daughter Nerissa Stawicki (Ron Stawicki); step-grandchildren Avery Stawicki (Isabel Stawicki), Sierra Stawicki, Seth Stawicki (Olivia Stawicki), Aubrey Stawicki; two great-grandsons Colt and Cannon Stawicki; brother John McGee; step-sister-in-law Sandy Price, and several family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at 1 pm at Liberty Christian Fellowship 1815 W. Liberty, MO. 64068. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude’s’s Children Hospital.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Les Whistler who helped find care at Carmel Hills Wellness and Rehabilitation especially all the staff on the Sunset Unit, as well as the doctors and nurses at Center Point Hospital who attended to David in his last hours. And to our Lord Jesus Christ for His love and guidance.
