David Leon McKnight, 69, of Deer Park, Texas unexpectedly passed away on June 20, 2022, to rest with the Lord.
David was born May 27, 1953, to Leon and Josephine McKnight in Pasadena, Texas.
He became his father's welding apprentice as a young man, perfecting his craft into a 50-year career. He discovered his artistic side of welding, creating unique sculptures and crosses.
In 1979, he met Gina, the love of his life, who he forever adored. Together they raised two wonderful children, Sarah and Austin. He worked hard to give them an amazing life and took pride in teaching them by example.
2019 brought him Jaxon and his greatest pride and joy was being Pawpaw.
The simple pleasures in life that David enjoyed were cooking, sausage making with his crew, listening to music, and spending time with his family. His dream of having their own place in the country on Toledo Bend came true several years ago. Here he spent many hours tinkering, building, fishing, daydreaming and most importantly making memories that will last a lifetime.
David is preceded in death by his father Leon, his mother Josephine, his sister Carol Ann Hoppens, in-laws Carl and Betty Battle, brother's in-law David Battle and Michael Caperton. He will be missed by his wife, children, grandson Jaxon McKnight and his sisters Sherry Vaught and husband Kerry Vaught, Karen Caperton, Sandee Maxwell, husband Sean Maxwell, and sister in-law Susan Battle. He also leaves behind nieces Monica, JoAnn, Shelby, Kassie, Ayla, Amy, Tara, and nephew Slayton.
He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, pawpaw, brother, uncle, and friend.
Services will be held at Deer Park Funeral Directors on Monday, June 27, 2022. Viewing will be from 10:00 am – 11:00 am., with services immediately following. Grave side service will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.

David was always the gentleman as well as a gentle man. He and my late husband, Craig were friends for many years. I am proud to have called him my friend. My heart breaks for Gina and their family.
