David J. Mello, 77, of Fall River, died Monday, March 18, 2024 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. 

    Born in Fall River, a son of the late George P. and Dorothy S. Mello, he resided in Fall River most of his life.
 
    He attended B.M.C. Durfee High School and was a 40-year veteran of the Massachusetts Army National Guard. He retired from the National Guard at the rank of First Sergeant in March of 2006. During his military career, he was awarded numerous medals and ribbons.

    He has been a Corvette enthusiast since 1985, having been a member of Corvette clubs in the Southeastern Massachusetts area. "Mr. Dave" as he was known throughout the Corvette community, was extremely active, attending numerous getaway weekend Corvette events within the New England area.

    He leaves behind two brothers, Andrew M. Mello and his wife, Madeleine Cormier, of Tiverton, RI, and Matthew J. Mello and his wife, Donna, of Fall River; a nephew, Keith A. Mello of Swansea and companion, Maria Santos, two godchildren, Tammy Santos of Melbourne, FL and Adam Santos of Newport, RI and also several cousins.

    His funeral will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at 9:00 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours will be held Thursday, from 4 – 7  PM.

    In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Outreach, 502 Bedford Street, Fall River, MA, in memory of his father, the late George P. Mello, and the Wounded Warrior Program, Fall River Veterans Organization. `
