David Merski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kloecker Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. - Erie (a.k.a. Francis V. Kloecker on Jan. 8, 2026.
David Joseph Merski passed away peacefully January 7, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. He lived a wonderful life and will be remembered as a well-intentioned man who instilled strong values, integrity, and a tireless work ethic in his family and all who knew him.

David was born November 23, 1937, and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he grew up and raised his family. Erie was always home to him, and he took immense pride in the life he built there.

David proudly served in the Army, an experience that shaped his sense of duty, discipline, and character throughout his life. For over 30 years, he dedicated his professional career to American Meter where he was known for his reliability, commitment, and steady dedication.

David was passionate about Notre Dame sports and love of Notre Dame football. Go Irish! A most dedicated fan and never missed a game. He passed the love of the "Irish" to his grandchildren.

An animal lover at heart, David had a special place in his heart for his pets, treating them as cherished members of the family. His kindness, patience, and quiet strength were evident in every part of his life. Known for feeding birds and taking care of stray animals. That compassion and empathy is strong in his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Hain) Merski. His children, David Merski, Lisa Hudson (David), Michael Merski (Jennifer), and Susan Stubenhofer (Jason). Twelve grandchildren who were a constant source of joy and pride, Collin Hudson, Ryan Hudson, Gabrielle Merski, Molly Merski, Noelle Merski, Aidan Huson, Jack Merski, Brady Stubenhofer, Owen Hudson, Katelyn Merski, Ian Stubenhofer, and Max Stubenhofer. Four living sisters, Mary Ann Ekelund, Judy Hain, Kathy Davis, Cheryl Webster, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joesph and Marie Merski, and brothers William (Buddy) Merski, James Merski, and Joseph Merski.

As a husband, father, and grandfather, David led by example, teaching the importance of hard work, respect, and doing the right thing. David leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and values passed from generation to generation. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, January 11th, at the Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St., from 3pm until 7pm and are invited to the Service the following morning, Monday, January 12 at 9:00amat the Funeral Home, followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church at 10:00am. Susan, I´m so sorry for your loss. You were the perfect couple and always seemed so happy wherever I might see you, like the Sunflower Club, usually with your sister. You are in my prayers. Hope to see you st the visitation .
