Obituary
David A. Mezzacapo, 84, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 surrounded by family.
Dave was born in Akron to the late Sam and Irene (nee Stevens) Mezzacapo and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of St. Vincent High School (now St. Vincent-St. Mary High School), where he played football, and briefly attended The University of Akron. He worked for House of LaRose, before becoming the owner of Van's Lounge in Akron.
Dave was an avid golfer for many years and passionate about all sports. He coached youth football. He attended his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He loved to care for animals, wild and domestic, and appreciated good food. He enjoyed gardening and lawn keeping, reading, and keeping up with current events. One of his favorite things to do was sending cards to family and friends. He was a very loving brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and cat-dad. He possessed a terrific sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Howard Schlegel; daughter, Deborah Kemp; and son, David "Tony" Mezzacapo. He is survived by his wife, Therese Hackett; daughters, Denise (Peter) Adzema and Elizabeth (Gerry) Leitao; son-in-law, Scott Kemp; daughter-in-law, Kim Mezzacapo; grandchildren, Wesley Kemp, Peter Adzema, Natalie & Samantha Mezzacapo; great-grandson, Mason; sister, Nancy Schlegel; nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Summit County (https://www.summithumane.org/).
