David Anthony Mikowski Jr.
Died April 20, 2024
CEDAR – David Anthony Mikowski, Jr., age 48, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in his home in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he resided for nine years. Born on July 28, 1975, in Northport, Michigan, David was the son of David Mikowski, Sr., and Shirley (Fleis) Mikowski.
David was known for his great sense of humor, huge smile and even bigger heart. He loved his family fiercely and cherished the time spent with them above everything else. He was adventurous and greatly enjoyed trying new things. He always celebrated opportunities to enjoy a moment or create a special memory. He loved hosting guests and always made you feel like you were welcomed and loved. David had a thirst for knowledge and was excited to learn new things regardless of the topic. He was grateful for every small kindness, and inspired joy in those around him.
Growing up in Cedar, Michigan, David attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Glen Lake High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Gaming Management from the College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV). David was the founder and president of the Student Gaming Association at UNLV, and also served on the Hotel College Dean's Student Advisory Board.
For many years, David lived in Las Vegas, where he worked for Harrah's Entertainment as a casino card dealer. He received numerous awards for his superior performance, including the top Chairman's Award for best-in-class service. He moved to North Carolina in 2014, working in the restaurant industry, until the Covid pandemic, at which time, with many businesses shuttered, he grocery shopped for those who could not travel out of their homes. David brought his innate friendliness and great work ethic to every job he held and was a willing volunteer to help family, friends, and his community whenever he saw a need.
David was preceded in death by his father David Anthony Mikowski, Sr., and nephew, Hosea Mikowski. He is survived by his mother, Shirley (Fleis) Mikowski, his siblings, Stephanie (Phillip) Rice, Douglas (Niki) Mikowski, Shaun (Sarah) Mikowski, Sarah (Scott) Herrington, and many nephews and nieces, a grand-niece, grand-nephews, aunts and uncles and many cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Holy Rosary Church. On Saturday, May 4, visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m., and Mass at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary. A luncheon will follow.
Burial will be on Sunday, May 5, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Holy Rosary Church, at 12:30 p.m.
Memorials can be sent to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 6982 South Schomberg Road, Cedar, Michigan 49621.
"For I know the Plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I only learned of David's passing a few days ago. We have not stayed well connected over the years, but he was my across the street neighbor in Las Vegas. He was a great neighbor and friend. We had such fun memories together with Steve, Rebecca, Mike D and Toby. David's loving energy will be missed. I am so lucky to have had him in my life. - Jenessa
