David A. Mizaur, 76, of Sherrard, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, with Father Anthony Ego officiating.  Visitation is one hour prior to services.  Private burial is in Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction, Iowa.  Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, is assisting the family.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

David Alan Mizaur was born in Anamosa, Iowa on September 4, 1947 to Robert Nicholas and Barbara Eleanor (Russell) Mizaur. David was raised on a farm north of Oxford Junction, Iowa. He attended Oxford Junction schools where he graduated as high school class Salutatorian. He later attended and graduated from Loras College with a degree in accounting.

While attending Loras College, David met the love of his life, Linda L. Herting. He was married to Linda on September 9, 1967 in Dubuque, Iowa. They were married for over 56 years. Over the course of their marriage, David and Linda had seven children, Nicholas (Candace) Mizaur of Omaha, Nebraska, Daniel (Cheri) Mizaur of Sherrard, Illinois, Connie (Sean) McSweeney of Oak Lawn, Illinois, Ronald (Robin) Mizaur of St. James City, Florida, Sheri (Patrick) Dean of Palatine, Illinois, Barbara Mizaur (Deceased), and Robert (Amanda) Mizaur of Peotone, Illinois. David was grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was dedicated to his family as a husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed large family celebrations and was usually the life of the party. He was a member of Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Coal Valley, Illinois.

David had a career in the food industry for over 50 years. During that time, he began his career working for several companies and later owned several of his own businesses. He was well known in the industry and made many friends over the course of his working years.

David was an avid fisherman all his life. As a young man, he fished in the Wapsipinicon River with his father and grandfather Russell. For many years, he fished with his family and friends in Lake Michigan on his boats MidKnight I and MidKnight II. He loved to fish on Fyre Lake with his wife, Linda, and anyone else in the family who would go with him,

David was also an avid Cubs fan. He and Linda had attended their first Cubs game in 2023. He also religiously watched the Chicago Bears and was always hopeful for them at the start of each season.

Being a person who loved sports, he also loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. Over the years, David could be found traveling with Linda to see various games, matches and other activities where they were able to watch the grandchildren that they loved.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Barbara Kathleen. Surviving David are his wife Linda, four sons, two daughters, and one sister, Kathleen M. Mizaur of Oxford Junction, Iowa.
