David Mogg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jun. 4, 2025.
David Lee Mogg, age 80, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Woodland Hospice House with his wife Rita by his side.
Dave was born June 27, 1944, in Mt. Pleasant, one of eight children of Ray and Cecil (Muter) Mogg.
He graduated from Coleman High School in 1963. His marriage to Barbara Sysak was blessed with two daughters: Dawn and Sandy. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1969 to June 1971. While in Germany he worked on tanks and represented the Army as a basketball player.
Upon his return to the states, he found love again and married Rita J. Hollobaugh on April 28, 1972, in Isabella County, Michigan. The couple had two more daughters: Julie and Sara to complete their family.
Dave was employed by Delta's air freight team at Ohare Airport and also for Oldsmobile in Lansing. He retired from Dow Chemical after 30 plus years where he worked as a millwright. He was a member of the Elks Club and Moose Lodge.
Dave and Rita spent the last 23 years wintering in Dade City, FL where they met and made numerous close relationships with friends.
Dave will be remembered as many things. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He was a skilled tradesman, an outdoorsman, and a golfer. He has been described by friends as genuine, a gentleman, patient, and a truly good man. First and foremost, Dave loved his family and had a great amount of pride in his daughters and grand children. He was the fun dad and grandfather. Whether it was having parties with his girls, playing Barbies with his grand daughters, or games with his grandsons, Dave brought joy to all the kids. Dave also had a love for the outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt. His patience was fully evident when he would hunt or fish with his young daughters and later with his grand children. It wasn't about catching a fish or shooting an animal. It was about spending time in the outdoors eating lots of snacks and enjoying each other. But he did love his venison!! Dave loved golf. He was an avid golfer in Mount Pleasant, Shepard, and in Florida. He loved to take the grandkids to spots he knew they could find balls also. Dave was a man of details. This boded well for his career as a millwright. He was full of facts all the time about sports, weather, and road trips. It was always amazing before Google maps to have Dave figure out a route and then more often then not tell you within minutes of when you would arrive. George Jones was Dave's favorite artist. On occasions Dave would even partake in some karaoke. Dave was also always there to lend a helping hand. Whether it was moving, fixing a vehicle, fixing a golf swing, or working on a project, he was always available. He also made it with Rita to watch their grand kids play sports, perform, or other special events across several states. These are all things that made Dave happy and who he was.
Dave is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rita; four daughters, Dawn Walker of Midland, Sandy Smith of Midland, Julie (Michael) Wickersham of Williams Bay, WI, and Sara (Jason) Gnagey of Byron, MN; eight grandchildren, Kristin Walker and Travis Walker, Margaret Wickersham, Mackenzie Panighetti, and Michael David Wickersham, and Ella Gnagey and Leah Gnagey; siblings, Al (Jill) Mogg of Lansing, Ernie Mogg of Cheyenne, WY, and Kathy (Fred) Hart of Cheboygan; in-laws, Annie Mogg of Shepherd, Gene Hollobaugh of Allen Park, Dora Hollobaugh of Salyersville, KY, Mary Kay Stanton of Gladwin, Richard and Jane Hollobaugh of Rose City, and Susan Hollobaugh of Chapel Hill, NC; and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ronald Mogg, Janet Mercy, Sue Arnold, and Phillip Mogg; grandson, Nick Gabaree, parents in-law, Gene and Kathryn Hollobaugh; and in-laws, Sandi Mogg, Jack Hollobaugh, Shirley Hollobaugh, Haskell Stanton, Dorothy Collins, and Frank Hollobaugh,
A funeral celebrating Dave's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Father Bob Byrne officiating. A luncheon will follow in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and on Monday one hour before the funeral. Cremation will follow and his ashes will be interred in Calvary Cemetery in a private family service.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Woodland Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Dave and to our family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
