David Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel - Knoxville on Jan. 14, 2026.
David Moore, 78 of Saginaw, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on 1/2/2026. After retiring from General Motors in 2006, he and his wife relocated to the beautiful Smoky Mountains in TN, later settling in Knoxville. Dave proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. A Vietnam War veteran, he demonstrated courage and selflessness in service to others. During his time in combat, he was wounded and later awarded the Purple Heart, an honor that reflected both his bravery and sacrifice. Dave was a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather whose greatest joy in life was his family. He embraced the role of "Dad" and "Grandpa" with his whole heart, always showing up with patience, humor, and unconditional love and support. His love was steady and genuine, and it shaped the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures, time spent on the golf course with his friends, time spent in the Smoky Mountains, and winters enjoyed under the warmth of the Florida sunshine. He loved traveling with his wife and close friends. Making memories to last a lifetime. Whether near or far from home, he had a gift for making every place feel warm and welcoming. He always had a "the more the merrier" philosophy and if you were in his home, you were family. Above all else, Dave will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the laughter he shared, and the countless moments of love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents and numerous siblings. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jo, children, Dan (Sue) Moore, Dana Maybrier, Derek (Amy) Moore, Marie Ford (Alex), Carlos Corona (Lauren), and Kelly Kalmbach, grandchildren, Casey Maybrier, Riley Maybrier, Nash Maybrier, Nicolina Moore, Melana Moore, Eleanor Corona, great grandchildren, Rowdie Thibert and Claire Kiefling. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Disabled American Veterans (DAV). We will be holding a memorial and celebration of life at a later date.
