David James Morrison, 77, of Green Harbor, MA passed away peacefully in his home on May, 17, 2025 after a short illness. He was born in Somerville to the late Hugh and Irene (Helsberg) Morrison.
David graduated from Somerville High School in 1966 and attended Wentworth Institute of Technology for one year. David worked briefly at Microwave Associates before beginning his career as a mechanical engineer at the US Postal Service where he retired after 49 years of service. David and his family moved to Marshfield in 1984 where they still reside today.
As a child, David spent summers at his grandparents' home in Rockport, where he enjoyed swimming in the quarry and ocean. It was during these summers that he developed his love for nature and gardening. David met the love of his life, Helen, while working at Boston City Hall and they married in 1967. Their love and dedication to each other remained unwavering through their 57 years of marriage. Together, they raised three daughters and built a life together filled with traveling, enjoying the beach and dining out. After working a demanding night shift at the post office, David never complained because this allowed him to spend daytime hours with his daughters. David never missed the opportunity to attend his daughters' and grandkids' sporting events. He was always there, rain or shine, near or far, with a box of munchkins in hand. He was their number one fan and encouraged them to keep trying to do their best, whether it be in academics, sports, or careers. David was also very gifted in solving mechanical, electrical and carpentry tasks. He spent many of his waking hours on major home improvements as well as lending his services to friends and family.
David cherished retirement as it allowed him to spend even more time with his family. He fully embraced this opportunity and was able to pursue new interests. He dominated the family fantasy football league, started playing cornhole and joined a local bocce league with his daughters, where he was known as being the heart of the team with his gentle and kind demeanor. He also enjoyed spending his later years with his grandchildren and babysitting his youngest Granddaughter, Carson. David was the most patient and supportive husband, father and grandfather and he will be dearly missed by his family.
David is survived by his wife Helen (Carney) Morrison; his children Lori Morrison, Cheryl Morrison along with her husband Robert Shetler and Tracy Morrison along with her partner Michael Maldonado; and his grandchildren Madison, Riley, and Nathan Moeykens and Carson Maldonado. He is predeceased by his grandson David Moeykens, who had the honor of receiving his name.
David, a 63-year survivor of Type One Juvenile Diabetes was steadfast and dedicated to remaining healthy in spite of this challenging diagnosis.
