Grace M. (Hannaford) Coakley, age 83, a resident of Tewksbury for over 45 years, passed away at the Blaire House of Tewksbury on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
She was the beloved wife of James P. Coakley with whom she celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on June 7, 2025.
Born in Somerville on April 10, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Ernest R. Hannaford and the late Margaret R. (Walsh) Hannaford.
Grace was raised in Somerville, attended local schools and graduated from Somerville High School in 1960.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for several years by the Shawmut Bank in Boston.
Grace was a member of the Tewksbury VFW Auxiliary and the Logan Post of Somerville.
She enjoyed many activities including, reading, hosting family gatherings, the beauty of flowers, love of bird watching and the companionship of her grand-dog "Peaches."
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Tara M. Coakley and her husband Timothy Roche, of Litchfield, NH; Deirdre M. Figueroa and her husband Onix, of Tewksbury and Brian P. Coakley and his significant other, Amy Patel, of New York, NY: her grandchildren, Domenic J. Coakley, Teagan M. Coakley-Roche, Braeden P. Coakley-Roche, Kiernan M. Coakley-Roche and Isis M. Figueroa. She was the sister of Richard Hannaford, of Hampton, NH, Marilyn Curran and her husband Joseph, of Chelmsford, Mary Ann Whalen and her late husband Richard, of Florida, Ernest Hannaford and his wife Helen, of Laconia, NH, Gerard Hannaford, of Methuen, Kevin Hannaford, of Methuen and the late Virginia Hannaford and Arlene Hannaford.
She leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Calling hours are Tuesday, July 22, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. Her funeral procession will begin on Wednesday, July 23, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Following cremation, niche placement of her ashes will be in the columbarium at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Veteran Wounded Warrior Project at Veterans Charity - Non Profit Organization for Veterans.
