David Pearson Nestor passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 28, 2025, after a brief illness at the age of 72. Born on August 15, 1952, in DeKalb County, Georgia to Bernice Annelle Edmondson and Robert Theodore Nestor, David lived a life filled with love, laughter, and animals.
A proud graduate of Clarkston High School (Class of 1970), David pursued his education in business at East Tennessee State University where he attended on a football scholarship. He learned tile installation from his father and when he moved to south Florida, he continued to lay tile. While there, he developed an interest in horse racing and had a small stable of racehorses, also becoming a harness race jockey on the east coast. When he returned to metro-Atlanta, he worked for the DeKalb County School System as a maintenance supervisor. Before retiring at age 55, he became a successful salesman of building supplies for PlyMart.
David served on the City Council of Jenkinsburg, Georgia from 1988-1989 and 2010-2011 and was elected mayor in 2012, serving until 2015. With a deep admiration for public safety, he implemented the first Fire Department for Jenkinsburg.
He found joy in the simple pleasures-frequent travel to Maine, daily exercise, watching the Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, or the Falcons, and enjoying his many canine companions.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Cynthia A. Nestor, and Carla H. Nestor, his wife of 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Pat Canipelli Nestor; her children, Brandon W. Canipelli (Natalie) and Brad M. Canipelli (Ruthy) and her grandchildren; sister, Carol R. Giarla (Michael) and nephew, Robert; niece, Stephanie R. Lyle (Scott), Mason, Cash, and Rhyan; niece, Brittany M. Nestor, Bristol; and his beloved Czech Shepherd, Ikee.
A visitation for David will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home in
Griffin, Georgia. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm with Reverend Danny Duffey, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
David's legacy of love, laughter, and community involvement will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
