Mr. David Scott New, of the Mt. Zion community in Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 54 years, 2 months & 7 days. He was born in Somerset (Pulaski County), Kentucky, on Thursday, August 12, 1971, the son of Janice James New & Boyce Melvin Tucker. He was a Christian and member of The Newell Christian Fellowship Church in Eubank, Kentucky, a 1990 graduate of Pulaski County High School, worked at Somerset Boat Dock as a teenager, and Somerset-Burnside Garage Door Company as an installer from 1996 to 2022 until his illness forced him to retire. He loved working and was dependable. He loved horseback riding and country life. His great smile made everyone feel special and welcome, a true Southern gentleman that will be missed by many, especially his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Kent James; maternal grandparents, Fred & Hazel (Adams) James; paternal grandparents, Cordus & Zelma (Keith) Tucker; and father-in-law, Alex Adkins.
He leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his passing his beloved wife, Misty Dawn (Adkins) New, whom he wed on Saturday, July 24, 2010; children, Mitchell Scott (& Sarah) New of Science Hill, Chelsea Renea New of Somerset; stepchildren, Lakyn Taylor Collins (& Victoria “Tori” Johnson) of Somerset, Brandon Douglas (& Katarina) Collins of Martin, Kentucky; brother, Mark C. (& Robin) New of Burkesville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Isaiah, Tobias, Parker, Caleb, Colton, Alayah, Kyra & Alex; aunts, Margaret Jasper James of Shady Grove, Judy James Vaught of Eubank, Lana James Cassada of Somerset; mother-in-law, Esther Greer (& Billy) Barrows of Paintsville; and a host of cousins and many, many friends.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. E.S.T. in the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, 5900 N. Highway 27, Science Hill, Kentucky 42553, with Bro. Michael Erp, Bro. Sherman Adkins, Bro. Larry Spears & Bro. Gary Cash officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Science Hill. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. E.S.T. on Friday, October 24, and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Mt. Zion Cemetery in his memory.
