Dave was known for his phrases that resonated with his athletes, notably, "Do as I say not as I do." His nurturing spirit extended beyond athletics; he was a kind, welcoming person revered for his strong leadership qualities and his passion for education. He instilled values of commitment and community service in his children, which has carried on through the initiatives created by the Nibbe Family Foundation and The Nibbe Track and Field Invitational.
Dave enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including golfing, gardening, and fishing. He was known for his love of cribbage, which brought joy to family gatherings, especially during their spirited tournaments. Furthermore, he held a daily ritual of completing crossword puzzles for 50 years and was also an avid coin collector.
