David Wayne Nunn died suddenly on the morning of July 9. He had been suffering from numerous health issues in recent years. Even though his health was not good, his death was still unexpected. David was a native of Madison County, and graduated from Madison County High School, then known as Gurley High, in 1962. He worked on race cars for many years with Jimmy Means and others. He was a butcher at Kroger's for many of his younger years. He spent a long time in the computer field working for companies like Control Data and Data Consultants, but he always had the urge to build. He started his building career in 1986, and was a very respected residential builder in the area. He was tough on his subs but he was fair. He liked building from scratch but his favorite thing to do was remodeling work. He loved to see a project taken down to bare bones and rebuilt as something new and beautiful. He always loved a challenge. His last project was just completed in June 2025. He moved a house and remodeled it, and turned out beautifully. He sold it to great people who have become good friends. What a great way to end his career.
David and Renay married in August 1985. They moved to Birmingham for a year before coming back to Huntsville to start building. His two boys, Scott and Todd and his grandson, Corey, have all followed in his footsteps in the construction business.
He was an avid Auburn fan, and loved anything Auburn. He and Renay had season football tickets for 25 years as Scholarship donors and attended as many games as they could, even traveling to Arizona and California for National Championship games.
David is survived by his wife, Renay; sons, Scott (Andrea) and Todd (Jennifer); grandson, Corey (Diana); three great-grandchildren; siblings, Bill Nunn, Marguerite Koontz (Jackie), Curtis Nunn (Jane), Linda Solmon (Gordon) and Carol Culver (Rod); many loving nieces and nephews; his cat, Maddie and his precious smiling dog, Scooter.
He was predeceased by his parents JE and Roberta Nunn, and siblings Jimmy, Marvin and Sylvia Nunn.
David will be remembered for his laughter and his joking. His favorite thing in life was teasing and picking at people. He always wanted to make people laugh and he did a lot. He was happiest when others were laughing.
Visitation will be from 11 to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with the service immediately following in the chapel.
