David Joseph Nystel, 70, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on June 24, 2025. Born on January 21, 1955, in Lubbock, David lived a life rich in music, learning, humor, and kindness.

David was a gifted musician and dedicated teacher whose passion for music touched countless lives. He held a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory from Texas Tech University, and a Master of Arts in Classical Guitar from North Texas State University. A skilled guitarist and cellist, David was known for his deep appreciation of classical music and his ability to share that love with others. He was a member of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity.

Beyond his musical talents, David had a love for trains, history, and storytelling. He was never without a pun or a fascinating fact, always ready to spark a conversation and brighten a room. His compassion extended to animals, and he found joy in the simple pleasures of life and in the company of family and friends.

David is survived by his sister Carol Carter, as well as several nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews who cherished his warmth and wit. He was preceded in death by his father Archie Nystel, mother Louise Nystel, brother Thomas Nystel, and sister Alice Page.

David's legacy is one of kindness, curiosity, and creativity. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to your local music education programs, continuing his lifelong dedication to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
