Linda Jane "Janey" McCown of
Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 77.
A celebration of her life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Paul Goodrich officiating.
Janey was born in 1948 and spent her entire life in Wichita Falls - a city she loved deeply and helped make more beautiful in many ways. She attended Wichita Falls High School and North Texas State University in Denton. In 1969, she married the love of her life, Larry McCown, and together they built not only a family, but also a lifetime of creativity, hard work, and devotion. They raised two children, Shelly Trice of Graham and Marc McCown of Wichita Falls, who were her greatest joy.
Faith was always a quiet but steady part of Janey's life. She grew up attending First Baptist Church and later became a devoted member of Floral Heights Methodist Church, where she found friendship, purpose, and a sense of home.
Janey didn't grow up with much, but she carried within her a deep determination to create a life filled with love, beauty, and meaning. She believed in lifting others up, in making every place a little better than she found it, and in sharing her gifts generously.
When Janey and Larry remodeled their first home on Dayton Street, they discovered a shared passion that would shape their future together. Larry found his calling in home construction, and Janey discovered her extraordinary talent for interior design. Her creativity and eye for beauty turned every home they built into a warm, welcoming reflection of her heart.
Janey's approach to decorating was as generous as her spirit: she started with what people already had and added just the right touches to make their spaces shine. Her work graced countless homes, nonprofit spaces, and community projects, always marked by her impeccable taste and attention to detail. Her creative endeavors included displays for Tuesday Morning, ownership of Lifestyles, eleven years of contributions to the Faith Refuge Decorator Show Houses, and arranging donated furniture at Faith Resale so it looked its very best and would appeal to shoppers.
A lover of antiques and a treasure hunter at heart, Janey found joy in discovering beauty in unexpected places. Her collections of art, furniture, and accessories were especially dear to her - none more so than those that found a place in her beloved vacation home in Ruidoso, New Mexico, where many special memories were made.
Janey was deeply involved in her community. She was a member of the Woman's Forum, Junior League, and Gourmet Club; a past president of the Carousel Club; and a faithful volunteer for Faith Refuge and Floral Heights United Methodist Church.
In 2022, Janey moved to Rolling Meadows, where she quickly became known for her warmth, hospitality, and ability to make any space feel inviting. She met many new people and formed a close circle of friends who gathered regularly to play games.
Janey was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jesse and Thurzia Brown.
She is survived by her devoted husband Larry; her children Marc McCown of Wichita Falls, and Shelly Trice and husband David of Graham; grandchildren Loren McClymond and husband Zach, BenTrice and wife Emily, and Claire Trice; and great-grandchildren Mabel, Warner, and William - all of whom brought her endless pride and joy.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and loved ones who surrounded Janey with care, kindness, and prayer during her final days, and especially Hospice of Wichita Falls.
