Obituary of David W. Oberschmidt
Oberschmidt, David W.
Saginaw, Michigan
Our father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away on Tuesday morning, June 4, 2024 at Mercy Health - St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. He was 79 years old. David William Oberschmidt was born on October 9, 1944 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late William and Brigetta (Sweeney) Oberschmidt. He attended Arthur Hill High School, graduating in 1962. Dave continued his education at Delta College, Michigan State University, and the Detroit School of Law, earning a Juris Doctorate. He owned and operated a law practice, Pro-Am Sports, Celebration Hall, and Keystone, Key West, East Bay, and Westbay storage facilities for many years.
He will be remembered for always taking care of others, supporting his community and giving to many local charities. Dave loved driving around in his convertibles taking in new sights. He also enjoyed traveling all over the world to such places as Australia, Spain, Peru, New Zealand, Costa Rica, California and many other locations where he liked meeting new people from different places. Dave also enjoyed going out to dinner where he would socialize with others and try new foods. What he loved most of all was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is one daughter, Heidi (Scott) Gates; grandchildren, Oliver Alexander Gates and Vivian Mackenzie Gates; siblings, Mark Oberschmidt and Louise Hemlock; his partner, Kaye Schultz and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Oberschmidt.

David was such a kind and giving person. He was always looking out for the least of them. I remember our trip to California for his daughters wedding with John Gustin. David, you will always be remembered by me as this loving man. RIP....Say hi to John.
