Publish in a newspaper

David Edward Olden, 78, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, beloved husband of Marie (Russo) Olden passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his wife and daughter, who both loved him into heaven. Born in Berlin, New York on August 7, 1947, the son of the late Ernest and Caroline (Smith) Olden, David was raised in Bloomfield and was a 1966 graduate of Bloomfield High School.
David retired with 30 years of service as a machinist with Hartford Compressor in 2003.
David proudly served the community of Bloomfield as an EMT with 40 years of service at Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance. One of his greatest accomplishments was being deployed in 2005 by FEMA during Hurricane Rita in Texas. There he helped evacuate small medical clinics, bringing patients to larger hospitals where they could receive the appropriate care. David's dedication to Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance was unwavering and he was always willing to help his community. He also taught CPR and First Aid courses in town. He was also involved at St. Francis Hospital with the Mending Hearts Program and as a Eucharistic Minister.
David and his wife Marie were longtime communicants of Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield. Here, David served as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Lazarus Committee, and served on the parish council.
David and Marie loved to travel by car, taking many wonderful road trips over the years, including trips to EMS conferences, Las Vegas, Key West and down Route 66. He especially treasured his many trips to Disney World with his family. David was a dedicated fan of UCONN Women's Basketball and NASCAR.
David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie (Russo) Olden of Bloomfield, his daughter Amy Olden Kiernan, her husband Craig, and his grandson Thomas David Kiernan, all of Berlin, Connecticut. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia O. Kittredge of East Granby, and Bonnie Bollens (Conrad) of Pittsburgh, PA, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Caroline, and his infant sister Carol Ann.
David's family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 4:00-7:00PM at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave, Bloomfield, CT 06002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, 30 Mountain Ave., Bloomfield, CT 06002.
David's family would like to extend a special thanks to his PD nurse Lynn, as well as Beth and the staff at Saint Francis Hospital MSICU and 8-1 for their special care and concern during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance, 12 Southwood Drive, Bloomfield, CT 06002. For condolences or directions please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com

David, Marie & Amy were some of the first people I met when I was moved to Bloomfield back in the 1980s. I remember visiting their lovely home many times for many occasions. One memory that stands out was David offering to repair a broken Christmas ornament in his basement workshop & there was no indication it was ever not whole. We had several common interests-especially UConn basketball! May he rest in the arms of our Lord forevermore.

My deepest sympathy to Marie and family during this difficult time. I knew Dave when he was a student at BHS and got to see both Dave and Marie at different functions. Got to see him and Marie last year in town and as always with a great smile. May he Rest In Peace.
