David Anthony Ortiz, age 50, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023. He was born July 10, 1973 in Chicago, IL.
After 2 years of high school at Niles North in Skokie, IL, David joined St. John's Military Academy in Delafield where he graduated as a First Lieutenant. David then went off to graduate from Marian College in Fond du Lac with his BSN in Nursing. David worked at Mercy Hospital as an ER nurse for many years, where he had an infectious passion for caring for others.
Wonderful son, extraordinary brother and the proudest father of his only son, Aaron. David was a genuine guy with a personality that could make you laugh for hours; the best story teller. He was an avid hunter, loved to camp and unwind on his motorcycle. During his long residence in Oshkosh, David was a staple in the community and left his hand print on the lives of many people.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
David is survived by his parents: Anibal and Mary Ortiz; sister, Melissa Ferguson (Karl); son, Aaron; nieces: Emma and Kayla; many aunts, uncles, and cousins, his St. John's brothers and too many friends to mention.
A service will be planned for later this year at St. John's Military Academy where David will rest for eternity. Please continue to check back for updates on the date and time of the service.

Dave was a fantastic human, great to work with, great to hunt with. He always laughed at how he saw all the deer when I wouldn't see any. I always put him in my usual stand! He cared for my mom so many times , she would ask for him because sm mom said she felt safe when he was there!! I find comfort knowing he is there with Mom now. You're a great guy.

I am thankful for the many times you sat down to converse heart to heart with patients/families and advocated on their behalf...you were a gentle giant with an enormous heart. Praying for healing and strength for your son whom you spoke of with such pride and love.

May God bless you and grant you true peace as well as wrap your son in love and support.

I worked with Dave as a colleague, and he also helped my family as ER patients. He was especially kind to my family when my Dad was brought to the ER with his final illness. I will miss him and am so sorry for his loss.

My heart hurts to know that you are gone so soon. Every time I walked into the ER I saw your smile and got a side hug from you. You are one of the most kind and caring people I have ever met. You are loved by the entire hospital staff. You will be greatly missed.

Dave,
My heart is broken. You always looked after me from afar after Joel died. I guess, now you will be pulling pranks with him in Heaven. There are no words to express the depth of the grief I feel. You left way too soon. I will miss all the joking around and feeling like I had a brother that would always have my back. Do not worry any longer. Rest easy, Dave. We all love you. Be at peace.
