David Phillip Owens left his earthly family to be with his heavenly family on Monday, December 29, 2025. He was a 1971 graduate of Delta High School in Muncie and a 1995 graduate of Ball State University in Muncie.
David enjoyed hiking, going to the beach, metal detecting, and taking his children and grandchildren fishing. He retired as an educational assistant from Eastbrook Middle School in 2014. He also served on the board of directors at Country Lake Estates. Additionally, he was a volunteer in New York after the attack on the Twin Towers and was a Master Mason. He was a fan of motor racing, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Chicago Cubs. He attended Eastview Church.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Y. Owens of Marion, IN; sons, John David Owens of Mebane, NC, and Christopher Ross of Marion, IN; daughter, Natachia (Jon) Souders of Cleveland, TN; grandson, Trey (Addy) Newton-Gossett; granddaughters, Charisma (Nathan) Winters, Braylee Souders, and Brynnlee Souders; great-granddaughters, Olivianah Newton-Gossett and Isla Mae Newton-Gossett; brother, Rev. Clifford R. (Ruth) Owens of MI; sister, Sharron D. (Ron) VanNatter of Muncie, IN; sister-in-law, Sheryl Landis of Marion, IN; mother-in-law, Ruth Landis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Joseph "Wayne" Owens; mother, Evelyn "Maxine" Owens; brother, Larry (Judy) Owens; brother-in-law, Tim Landis; and father-in-law, Rev. E.D. Landis.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate David's life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating.
