David Peal PhD

It is with very heavy hearts that the family of David S. Peal, PhD, shares that he passed away suddenly in Medford, Massachusetts on April 15, 2025. David had just turned 59 years old. He is survived by his loving siblings: Victoria A. Peal Davis, Stan (Laura) Peal, and DeeAnne Peal Grant, as well as many dear friends.
David grew up in Wilmot, Wisconsin and graduated from Wilmot Union High School. He served as a Sergeant in the US Air Force. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts, 1990-1995. He earned his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006. He did post-doctoral training in cardiovascular science at Harvard Medical School from 2007-2011. He was an instructor with focus on cardiovascular disease at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital from 2011-2013, and was a research scientist at Harvard Medical School from 2013-2017. He then turned to a career in teaching, both at the college and high school levels. "Dr. Dave" loved to share stories of his adventures in teaching.
David found his longtime home in the Boston area of Massachusetts. He became a vegetarian during his days at Salem University. (His sisters remember the gorgeous veggie lasagna he served one Thanksgiving!) He loved to write, and not just articles with titles such as "Mitral Valve Disease – Morphology and Mechanisms." He wrote a historical fiction novel published in 2018, "Blood on the Spear", and had planned for it to be a trilogy. He had strong opinions and was not afraid to express them. Yet he also had a whimsical sense of humor.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Cynthia C. Stangren Peal and Delford D. Peal, and sister Christine (Ron) Peal Schaeffer. Thanks to Boston Cremation in Malden, Massachusetts, for their services. Information about memorial gatherings will be provided at a later date.
Dave, it's so hard to accept that you're gone. We love you so much. Our hearts are broken beyond repair. With so much love from your siblings.
